Things
To See In Trail Head Park
Enjoy a
walk around the marsh next to the nature center. The marsh, park and
new levee were created as a part of the recent flood control project
to remove the city of Houston from the flood plain. They were planted
in a variety of native prairie and wet land species in the spring of
1998. Each year, more and more of the nearly 100 species planted
reach blooming age, providing an ever changing rainbow of
color.
Explore
the Root River Trail and drink in a variety of woodland wild flowers.
The Root River valley near Houston is especially famous for its
bluebells.
Get in
touch with the wild side of southeastern Minnesota with our hands-on
displays! Find out things like what an owl feather feels like, what a
woodpecker tongue looks like, what color a shrew's teeth are, and
what all those rocks you are seeing are.
